Year 2 have visited the Discovery Museum on 11th January to find out more about the Great Fire of Newcastle and Gateshead. In class we have been learning about The Great Fire of London and we wanted to know if there had been a fire closer to home, and there had been on the Quayside in 1854.
We found out about the facts and the characters in the Great Fire of Newcastle and Gateshead. We were also able to touch objects and get dressed up in clothes that would have been around in 1854. Our favourite item was the Penny Lick, which was a glass 'cone' where you would put Ice Cream in and would cost a penny.
We finished the morning with a puppet show where we were able to act out the Great Fire with the fantastic puppets and set that had been built for us to use.
